Meeting Notes 2008-04-29

Issues Discussed:
  • Good news the Town Point DMP site issues have been resolved on the Herring Bay site.
  • Round the room reports on current dredging projects.
  • Amberly had to have dump trucks on their boat ramp for spoils removal. 100+ dump truck loads removed.
  • Bayland enforces only what the permit allows to dredge.
  • $140K was raised from residents to match county funds .
  • Amberly was the only dredge project done this winter.

Clements Creek had scouts check depths dredged & reported any insufficient dredging. County does main channel & you must check spurs & go to County or Bayland for problems.

MD state has done some navigational aids on the channel but DNR may not put them in. Private markers may be better solution but must apply for permission. First time channel markers mentioned with dredging in AAWRA meeting.

Permits for 2008 projects include 12 spurs on locust Cove & 11 spurs on Main Creek. Mill Creek had sewage spill problem & has priority for sewage sediment.

AACounty says it is back on track for dredging projects. Legislative session never mentioned dredging, WIF, or retrofits and it succeeded with no impact to funding. AAWRA strategy was to not call attention to these funds.

2010 season will be Duvall Creek, Severn River Headwater, Stephens Creek, Upper West River & Pocahantas Creek Headwaters.

Bob Costa is delegate for district 33.

Fire trucks need dredged water to pump sufficient water to fight fires near waterfront homes. Photos of a fire truck sitting on boat ramp pumping water for fire is good for supporting dredging.

Special Community Benefit Tax District (SCBTD) can be used for dredging and is formed by property owners that benefit from the project create a special tax district with 2/3 resident vote to tax themselves to repay a 20 year interest free loan.
