Anne Arundel
Waterway Restoration Alliance

Meeting Notes 2004-06-08

The meeting was called and held at Calvary United Methodist Church, 301 Rowe Boulevard, Annapolis, MD on June 8, 2004 at 7 P.M. Our invited speaker, Joan Cadden, Delegate, District 31, was unable to attend due to family illness. With nine attedees present we were able to review organizational development, a statement of purpose, a limited review of proposed by-laws, and all these items to be reviewed by the membership until Fall, 2004. Our next meeting is planned for August 11, 2004, after many folks have been on vacation.

We reviewed Govenor Earlich's letter releasing Waterway Improvement Funds to Anne Arundel County, with some satisfaction that our group formation effort stiffened the governmet resolve to repair the dredging budget deficit for 2005. Of concern to the group was the lack of budget repair by Anne Arundel County. We intend to try and muster support in the county council and elsewhere to additionally fund several creek dredging efforts.

Bill Edmonston, with more than 30 years experience in non-profit waterway associations, has invested considerable effort in establishing a valuable set of bylaws that would enable the group to operate effectively. They would also be consistent with forming a non-profit corporation when the proper time comes. A draft copy of the by-laws will be posted to the web site for membership review and comment.

Our meeting went on for more than two hours. We looked at certain ways we might provide support to creek repair efforts in both north and south county. There was also review of some alternative action steps, and some initial assignments to develop plans for lobbying were made. Jennifer McBride, representing the Curtis/Marley/Furnace Watershed, outlined the status of their ongoing efforts.
